Events in Cuba

Visit Cuba this JULY 2nd to 20th July 2012

The International Work Brigade consists of groups from the solidarity and socio-political organisations of several European countries mostly youths. Members of the Brigade spend three weeks in Caimito - Havana as a ‘Brigadista’, working and socialising with Cubans and people from all across Europe. It is a unique opportunity to experience the Cuban Revolution firsthand and show that Cuba is not alone.

This camp is ideal for students, youths, teachers, political activists and those wanting a different holdiay.

Participants will have the opportunity to see and experience the real Cuba:

  • Visit and work in the Cuban agricultural system
  • Learn Spanish and Salsa
  • Visit primary and secondray schools, art schools, universities and gymnasiums
  • Meet social and poltical organisations
  • Meet many european cuban-solidarity organisations
  • Visit hospitals and clinics
  • Try authentic Cuban cigars, rum and tropical food
  • Visit museums, galleries and beaches
  • Get involved in a range of cultural activities
  • See and discuss the Cuban political system
  • Visit food, tobacco, rum and other samll indurstry factories

Participation in any of the events is non-obligatory.

Brigadistas also take part in a full programme of activities including educational and political events plus visits to hospitals and schools to see for yourself the successes of the Revolution. Entertainment is provided at the camp with live bands and dance lessons, whilst excursions to some of Cuba’s fantastic beaches and places of interest are organised. The brigadistas will also stay a weekend at a hotel in Pinar del Rio, an adjacent province to Havana, which also has its distinct characteristics from Havana.

      FOR A CULTURE OF NATURE - SECOND CALLING / MARCH 2012

    The Second International Colloquium José Martí: FOR A CULTURE OF NATURE will be celebrated at the International Conference Center of Havana on June 9-11, 2011 and has as central purpose to reiterate in an urgent way the need to study in depth themes that are essential to the survival of the Planet, favoring the welfare of mankind, preserving the environment and contributing to a sustainable peace, progress and development.
    The purpose of the organizers is to achieve a plural and all-including participation without distinctions or exclusions as a form of multiplying the extent and influence of exchanges in Latin America, the Caribbean and other regions of the world, thus granting it universal meaning and content.
    Man –main modifier of nature– will be the center of the analyses. The economic and social issues in relation with sustainable development will necessarily have an outstanding place in the Colloquium, as well as the references to the immense cultural wealth and legacy of Mankind.
    Other purposes of this meeting will be the impulse to instrument and favor a universal culture that will interpret the dialectic relation between man and nature through the analysis and acquaintance with the most diverse experiences of community work, the teaching programs of environmental education, the role of the mass media, the creation of both regional and international electronic networks and the strengthening of cooperation links between organizations and institutions.
    In like manner, the Second International Colloquium José Martí: FOR A CULTURE OF NATURE seeks to make a contribution to the necessary connection among the different disciplines of knowledge, particularly between the so called social and humanistic sciences and the natural and exact sciences, contrasting the inseparable union of the problems and concepts provided by the relations among human beings and the relations of the latter with the natural environment, source of life.

    The thematic axles to develop the special presentations, commissions and panels in the Colloquium are the following:

    1. ETHICS AND ENVIRONMENT

    a) Ethics, politics and sustainability in human societies
    b) The relation between science, technology and environment
    c) Peace and environment: resources for war vs. resources for sustainable development

    d) The ethics of Martíin a new relation between society and nature        

    2. POLITICS AND ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

    a) Outlook, perspectives and experiences of environmental education
    b) The role of mass media
    c) The political-administrative structures at municipal and local level and their support to a culture of nature
    d) The ideas of Martíand the education in favor of a culture of nature
    e) Bioethics of the intervention
    3. INFAVOR OF A SUSTAINABLE WORLD
    a) Draining and/or contamination of the waters, means and other natural resources
    b) Alternative energies in the era of fossil fuels; other sustainable technologies
    c) Hunger, unhealthiness and poverty: environmental impoverishment in the Third World
    d) Global bioethics of sustainability
             
    4. THE ENVIRONMENT FROM AN INTER-DISCIPLINARY AND HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
    a) Integration of philosophical-humanist knowledge and scientific-technological knowledge
    b) The environmental issue from the standpoint of the different specialized disciplines
    c) The scientific-technical revolution escorted by the protection and preservation of the environment
    5. SEMINAR ON THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THE SMALL ISLAND STATES AND THEIR COASTAL RESOURCES
    The strategy of the Sector of Social and Humanistic Sciences of UNESCO for the development of the small island states was launched immediately after the International Meeting for the checking of the implementation of the Action Program for the Sustainable Development of the Small Island States that took place in the Island of Mauritius in January 2005. In the case of the Caribbean, the thematic emphasis of the UNESCO program has been identified as “Sustainable Development and Coastal Resources of the Small Island States of the Caribbean ”. The Caribbean Sea and its coastal resources arethe key for the development of the small island countries of the region, and therefore the coastal resources are widely acknowledged as a critical element for the economic, social, cultural and political processes of the Caribbean .
    With the celebration of this Seminar, the José MartíProject of World Solidarity makes an effective contribution to this UNESCO program, in coordination with the UNESCO Office for the Caribbean with headquarters in Kingston , Jamaica and the Regional Cultural Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ORCAL), with headquarters in Havana , Cuba .           
    Likewise it establishes an active relation with the Movement of Social Transformation (MOST)of that organization.
    6. YOUTH FORUM: A WORLD AHEAD

    The top date for the delivery of abstracts of all papers will be February 1, 2010 in order to be examined by the Scientific Committee and approved for presentation. The abstracts will be sent by e-mail and should not exceed one page, single-spaced.

    "Cuba master: a Cuban experience is a cultural activity

    This event is planned from May festival in Spain in Palma de Mallorca and culminating in the October 20 Buenos Aires to commemorate the day of Cuban culture. To have a festival for 3 days, showing explicitly the integral artistic potential through the development of cultural events related to cultural industries.

    1-Title: Cultural action "Master Cuba: A Cuban Experience"
    1) Exhibition of photos and books, recordings from different Cuban stamps and presentation of the latest album EGREM and other Cuban enterprises, mini film series and symposium on Cuban culture: from Marti to Guillen and conversation about the system unique arts education before and after 59.

    2) Realization of multimedia 2: "Get out of me: cuba Caribbean Volcano" and "... in silence to the 5 had to be" totally dedicated to this latest disclosure with texts by Jose Marti. I absorbed the history and the most significant moments of the s Cuban internationalist missions in different parts of the world.
    3) Contest "Boleros de Oro", whose final will be held in Buenos Aires in October at the 3rd week as a day of tribute to Cuban culture. The winner will travel to participate in the international festival Golden Boleros Havana convened by the Union of Artists of Cuba and the Ministry of Culture of Cuba and disc recording made by the office AfroCubanConcertMusic art.
    4) Conducting the seminar cuba master (piano / violin / vocals)
    2-Substantiation: Show an explicit integral artistic potential through the development of cultural events related to cultural industries.
